The Holodomor (1932-1933)

Beginning in 1932, the Soviet Socialist Republic of Ukraine experienced a man-made famine known today as the Holodomor, or killing hunger. Although there were widespread food shortages in the USSR at the time due to natural drought conditions, the famine was largely limited to Ukraine. This wasn’t because the drought was any worse in Ukraine, but because the system of collectivization engineered a situation that caused death on a wide scale.

Whether this was an intentional effort on the part of Moscow to subjugate Ukraine or the result of catastrophically bad planning is a subject of debate among historians. The Soviet Union officially denied the existence of the famine until it collapsed. The modern state of Ukraine officially considers the Holodomor to be an act of genocide. Estimates vary widely, but certainly several million Ukrainians starved to death in 1932 and 1933.

Such Words Were Upon the Tongues of Demons

Do you know who you are when all you are is lost, and not even forgiveness can save you from what you have become inside? You can separate yourself from the truth but when the sunset dies so will you.

Rasga-me o peito, ó Fortuna! com triângulos do espelho partido!

Partículas pequenas e resplandecentes cortam as veias, circulam no sangue…
Liberta-me vida… Deixa-me!
